2015: The Year of Sport

(Wanted to archive this "News & Updates" post; my blog seemed like the best place for it! 2016 should be just as exciting!)

Dust off your Team Canada Jerseys and dig out your "Go Canada Go" banners because His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, has declared that 2015 will be the Year of Sport in Canada. Throughout the year, Canada will play host to a number of global sporting events, showcasing Canadian athletes and celebrating the role that sport plays in our country. This is also a great opportunity for physiotherapists across the nation to gain once in a lifetime on-field experience!

We started off on the right foot with a gold medal performance at the IIHF World Junior Championship hosted by Toronto and Montreal. Up next will be the 25th edition of the Canada Games from February 13th to March 1st. I am excited to travel to Prince George, BC (my first time west of Winnipeg!) to join the sponsored medical team at this amazing event! The summer will be very busy and exciting with the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada running from June 6 to July 5 in Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Moncton.  Five days later, the 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games will be starting, which will bring over 10,000 athletes and coaches from the Americas to Toronto.

Live the Year of Sport through the eyes of a sport physiotherapist as I share my experiences through Instagram and my blog. T-37 days before the Canada Games!

“The Year of Sport will promote Canada’s position as a leading sports nation and highlight the power of sport to enhance the lives of all Canadians.”
